Visit With Janice Dulak

Dear Friends,

Last Friday I told you how excited I was to have Janice Dulak (author of Pilates for Dressage) visiting with me. Having her here is wonderful – I get to really focus on Fluidity for higher-level collection and engagement. She is very knowledgeable and articulate, so her explanations are very clear for me, and I get to ask all kinds of questions.

Instructor Course

Dear Friends,

As you may know, another one-week Instructor Course started today in Florida! We’ve been working hard on the curriculum and schedule for the course, and this time we're running two Instructor courses concurrently: 1-Star and 2-Star. There will be some shared sessions such as on teaching strategies, simulations, student goals and pacing...and then we branch off into more specific subjects for each of them.

Writing Process

Dear Friends,

Ever wondered about the process I go through to write all these articles, Mastery Manuals, blog entries, etc.? When I write, I like to sit on my couch, where I'm comfortable. Laptop on my lap, Vinny lying next to me. And I have to have the TV on playing music or the cooking channel. This is my "white noise" that makes sure I'm not distracted by every little sound that I hear out or around the house! I can write for hours and hours like this.

Watching Walter Teach

Dear Friends,

When Walter comes to visit us, he teaches not only me and Pat, but also a handful of Pat’s Mastery Students. I love to watch these lessons as much as I can, because it is fascinating to see how Walter brings the horse and the rider together and how true he stays to his process. In fact, after I had my breakthrough with Remmer, I found myself being more focused on what the horse was doing and then what the rider needed to do. Let me be more specific.

Teaching Finesse

Dear Friends,

As you’ve seen recently on Facebook, I’ve been teaching some of Pat’s Mastery Students in the art of riding with Finesse. It’s wonderful to be teaching people who are really thirsting for knowledge and have a lot of preparation for this stuff! Finesse is a very complex subject and you have to learn so much about your body and using it athletically to influence your horse's engagement, and then developing your feel. Contact without pulling, posture and structure without tension, longer leg profile without bracing...it's a deep subject!
