Mastery Lessons

Dear Friends,

I’m really enjoying the interactions with our Gold Savvy Club members for the new Mastery Lesson DVDs we’re doing. Pat does a lesson with his Mastery students, and I do a discussion/problem solving session I call “Ask Linda." It’s great to be able to talk to actual members while they are here at the Parelli Campus. I can ask them questions, talk about and demonstrate answers – often with simulations – and they often bring up questions that many others students have, too.

The Game of Contact

Dear Friends,

Every time Walter comes to teach us I make huge improvements and great discoveries on all kinds of levels – mental, emotional, physical. Last time was especially pivotal for me because during one of the lessons I felt Remmer was ‘heavy’ and when I said this to Walter he looked confused. I could see why when we watched the video – Remmer looked better than ever! I decided that it was just a different feeling for me and approached it with more confidence the next day with great results.

Last Thoughts on Janice's Visit

Dear Friends,

As you read in last Thursday’s blog, Janice (Pilates for Dressage) and I had a great visit, and I just wanted to share a few final thoughts on it with you. Janice is such a master of the body, understanding it at a deep level and really knowing what a horse has to do in order to achieve collection, engagement…and for horse and rider to achieve that feeling of harmony and unity when performing. She’s a great teacher too, that’s almost more important to me because she can effectively pass it on.

Thoughts from Janice Dulak

Dear Friends,

As you know, Janice Dulak of Pilates for Dressage has been visiting with me for the last few weeks. For today’s blog entry, I thought it would be neat for her to share some of her impressions of the time we’ve spent together. Enjoy!

Visit With Janice Dulak

Dear Friends,

Last Friday I told you how excited I was to have Janice Dulak (author of Pilates for Dressage) visiting with me. Having her here is wonderful – I get to really focus on Fluidity for higher-level collection and engagement. She is very knowledgeable and articulate, so her explanations are very clear for me, and I get to ask all kinds of questions.

Finesse Psychology

Dear Friends,

I’m excited Janice Dulak (author of Pilates for Dressage) is here with me for the next few weeks. Yesterday I invited her to sit in on my theory session (Q & A) with the Mastery Students. One question that came up: "How long should you ask a horse to stay engaged/collected?" I replied: “It depends on the fitness of the horse and the human!”

Finesse Breakthrough

Dear Friends,

I had a super week with Remmer and Walter Zettl last week! On the second day, I got a bit concerned because I thought Remmer felt heavy. When I told Walter, though, he had this bewildered look on his face. We watched the video that evening, and I could see why Walter had been so confused…Remmer looked fantastic!

Clarifying Blowing Out

Question: My question refers to the October 2009 Savvy Club DVD, “Focus on Finesse.” First off, thank you so very much for this DVD; it really  helped build a bridge between my Dressage instructor's advice and the way I learned to sit using the Levels packages. I am wondering, however, about the horses blowing. When Jamie was riding, you said the sound indicated that the horse was on the forehand, but when Amy was riding, the sound meant the horse was relaxing. After watching the video a couple of times, I'm still confused.

Watching Walter Teach

Dear Friends,

When Walter comes to visit us, he teaches not only me and Pat, but also a handful of Pat’s Mastery Students. I love to watch these lessons as much as I can, because it is fascinating to see how Walter brings the horse and the rider together and how true he stays to his process. In fact, after I had my breakthrough with Remmer, I found myself being more focused on what the horse was doing and then what the rider needed to do. Let me be more specific.

Breakthrough!

Dear Friends,

Walter Zettl has just concluded another visit with us here in Ocala, and my lesson on day four was a huge breakthrough! All of a sudden it all came together, everything Walter had been trying to get me to feel. As he said, it's like watching grass grow – it seems like nothing is going on and then suddenly the green tips shoot out of the ground!
