Dear Friends,
Pat’s and my definition of mastery is “doing simple things well.” You can saddle with mastery, bridle with mastery, mount with mastery, play the Seven Games with mastery, handle your reins with mastery, etc., etc. Mastery is not exclusively about doing high-level maneuvers like flying changes or slide stops. In fact, if you don’t master the simple things first, the high-performance things will always de difficult or substandard. True mastery is about what you do with your horse in every moment: how you communicate, how you move, how you touch, how you plan, how you adjust.
