Former PRCA Bareback Rider Pat Parelli to Present Cowboy Crisis Fund Benefit Demos at South Point Hotel & Casino During the 2010 National Finals RodeoPeople across the globe know Pat Parelli as coiner of the term natural horsemanship and as the founder of Parelli Natural Horsemanship, the #1 equine training program in the world. What many people don’t realize is that before he became the famous equine communicator he is today, a young Pat Parelli lived the life of a bareback bronc rider traveling the rodeo circuit for 14 years. It was natural then when asked to help raise funds for the Justin Cowboy Crisis fund that Parelli would jump at the chance to aid injured cowboys. Parelli will present “Natural Horsemanship the Cowboy Way” during three demos at the South Point Hotel & Casino on December 1-2, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV during the National Finals Rodeo. The demos will focus on the actionable techniques that any horseman (from weekend trail rider to NFR finalist) can use to cultivate a better relationship with their horse and how to leverage that relationship for long term success. Parelli will also cover how simulators can be used to develop or enhance cow-working skills for those who do not have regular access to cattle, or those who want to light up the excitement level of their day-to-day horse training routine. The demos are free to the public, but attendees are encouraged to make a donation of any amount to benefit the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. The JCCF lends a helping hand to professional rodeo athletes and their families who have been affected by catastrophic injuries. The organization partners with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) to help lighten the financial burden after tragic incidents. It dedicates 100% of all contributions received for disbursement directly to eligible injured applicants. “Rodeoing taught me a lot of important things I still use today in my teaching, in my business and in my relationships with people in general. It taught me to be mentally, emotionally and physically fit. It taught me how to create good habits and how to relax horses. After all, they are athletes too, and need to be relaxed to perform their best” says Parelli. “I’m happy to be able to give back in a small way to an industry that was such a formative part of my life.” Beginning his bareback bronc riding career at the Johnny Hawkins rodeo school, Parelli soon earned a rodeo scholarship to Modesto Jr. College and Fresno State College in California. There, he traveled with some of the best riders of the time and successfully rode some of the toughest horses to step on dirt including NFR horse 01 High Tide and four-time bareback horse of the year, Mr. Smith. Parelli’s early rodeo experiences soon set him on the fortuitous path of a life with horses and ultimately led to his life’s work unlocking the secrets of equine psychology and educating others how to do the same. Today, he is the world’s preeminent equine behaviorist whose principles are followed by hundreds of thousands of horseman in over 35 countries worldwide. Offering horsemen the ability to create lasting partnerships with their horses without fear, force or intimidation, Parelli Natural Horsemanship attracts not only everyday horse lovers but the world’s leading riders and trainers from every major discipline.
In addition to horsemanship demonstrations, Parelli Natural Horsemanship will have a booth at the 64th Annual PRCA National Convention Trade Show in the South Point Exhibit Hall which will feature the company’s full line of educational study-at-home courses and horse training tools.
