I'm finally getting to write the follow up to my ride the other day. Keeping it slow only lasted for a little time, Remmer ended up getting really motivated so we did a lot more. But in the beginning going slowly with some leg yields, shoulder-in and haunches-in was great.
It helped me get more specific about my position and realize my inequalities. The right haunches-in is harder for us, so I could slowly improve that without it being annoying for Remmer.
As he got more motivated he started wanting to trot and canter, so I played with some canter-walk transitions getting his weight more back and his canter more animated. He was great! I really focused on getting my core engaged and the better I did that, the more engaged he became. At the end we did some half-pirouettes that were some of the
best ever.
So much for taking it easy that day! Well at least half of it was :) The next day I just played with him in the round corral with a Savvy String around his neck attached to my 45' line and focused first on relaxation where he could trot and canter with a nice rhythm, and then some transitions.
Now it's raining and cold so I won't ride until the weather is better!

Linda
