Dear Friends,

I’m excited Janice Dulak (author of Pilates for Dressage) is here with me for the next few weeks. Yesterday I invited her to sit in on my theory session (Q & A) with the Mastery Students. One question that came up: “How long should you ask a horse to stay engaged/collected?” I replied: “It depends on the fitness of the horse and the human!”

I had no idea what engagement felt like to a horse until I met Janice and she had me do it in my body…so I asked her to do that with the group. I think they got the point! Once it starts getting into performance, and especially something like collection/engagement, it’s a workout! You have to get fit and strong in the core, and you have to understand how to get your horse to be able to do that. I don’t for one moment think I’m ‘there,’ but I know I’m on the way and discovering lots along that journey.

The real interest for me, however, is in how to make it something the horse ‘gets’ mentally and wants to do – much like the experience I have when Remmer and I play at Liberty. Motivating the Left-Brain Introvert is a constant game of psychology in all Four Savvys! It is my goal to figure that puzzle out; to get to where Rem enjoys it as much as I do…and we’re on our way.

More on that later, there are some cool discoveries going on :-)

Yours Naturally,
Linda
